Brief Introduction of Cixi Export Processing Zone (Economic Development Zone)
Cixi Export Processing Zone (Economic Development Zone) is located in the north part of Cixi with Hangzhou Bay in its north. It is the
south wing of the economic circle in Yangtze River Delta, and the center of the golden economic triangle formed by Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo. The south approach bridge of the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world—Hangzhou Bay Bridge goes through the New Zone, which bestows the Zone superior location and convenient transportation. The programming area of Hangzhou Bay New Zone is 145 km2. After the construction is finished, the New Zone will become a ecological modern industrial new city around Hangzhou Bay and the north economic center of Ningbo City, with a population more than 500,000.
By now, more than 6.6 billion yuan has been put into the infrastructural development in Hangzhou Bay New Zone. The zone is constructed according to the standard of “9 connected and 1 flat” (road, electricity, industrial use water, living water, sewage discharging, pollution discharging telecom, heat and gas connected and flat land). The green coverage in the New Zone reaches 40% and water coverage 11%, which makes it a modern ecological industrial zone. High-class road net-work has been formed in the 20 km2 first section. The width of the main road in the New Zone is 50m, sub-road 36m and branch road 16m. Two transformer stations (110KV and 35KV) have been set up, and thermo-electric plant has begun working since 2003. The sewage treatment plant designed and invested by Fudan University began working in July 2003. Sewage is discharged to the standard. The Service Building for the enterprises in New Zone has been put into use in October 2004. The New Zone puts its focus on sustainable development strategy. There has been more than 250 large scale and high-tech projects settling down in the New Zone. In 2008, the industrial output value exceeded 30 billion yuan.
The comprehensive supporting system is perfect in Hangzhou Bay New Zone. There are more than 80,000 industrial and commercial enterprises, over 30 lines of business, 10 major pillar industries in Cixi. There are more than 3,000kinds of products, with 36 characteristic economic blocks. Cixi has become an important processing base in many industries home and abroad.
