Introduction

Dongqian Lake is located on the coast of eastern Zhejiang, on the southeastern suburb of Ningbo. It is 10 km off Ningbo city proper and about 15 km away from Ningbo Lishe Airport. In addition, there are Yinxian Highway, No. 71 provincial highway and a under planning light rail connecting Ningbo city proper and Dongqian Lake scenic area. In the area,there are the loop highway around the lake,Lucky Spring Hill Highway,Hanyang Highway and Dongqian Lake Street in series with all sight seeing.

Dongqian Lake, which is 4.5 kilometers from east to west and 8.5 from south to north, has a circumference of 45 kilometers and an area of 19.89 square kilometers. Located at the subtropical monsoon area, it is the largest natural fresh water lake in Zhejiang. The yearly average temperature of the lake area is 15.4 ℃ . It is warm and humid with plentiful of rainfalls. It has no extremely cold days in winter and no extremely hot days in summer, it is really a wonderful vacationland.

Here you will see the wonderful natural sceneries. The water waves in the lake are covered with mist, and the beautiful hills are showing their beauties. The lake and hills around it are filled with the charm of the south of the Yangtze River.

Here you will also see the thick cultural sediment. Famous people of different dynasties including Wang Anshi, Shi Miyuan and Yu Youding etc. left their footprints here. There is also a tomb stele group from the Southern Song Dynasty, which is a national cultural relic. You are welcome to go there and take a look.

Here you will also see many famous sceneries including Fishing Rock of Master Tao, Island of Rosy Clouds and Haze, Fishing Lights in Yinwan Bay ， Afterglow at Erling, Celestial White Stone, Lodging Wild Goose at Reed Marshes. The scenic spots look like poems, paintings songs and cry. The water is collected because of the hills and the water makes the hills more beautiful.

downtown area or Lishe international airport, and another ten minutes?drive can access
people to the highway Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo and Tongsan highway. After Hangzhou
bay bridge will be completed in 2008, the distance between Ningbo and shanghai will be
dramatically shortened.

　　Trade Culture. More than 2000 years ago, this very lake came to the people's view.
During the Spring and Autumn Period, a senior official in the kingdom of Yue, named Fan Lionce retreated in Crouching Ox Mountain beside Dong Qian Lake, with the celebrated beauty XiShi. He made his living by trading and then became the richest man ever since, leaving a beautiful legend behind. During the modern times, with the opening of five treaty ports, manypeople emigrated aboard, and set up their own business there, and most of them become successful businessmen and are renowned for their patriotism
Buddha culture. In Dong Qian Lake area, there are many famous temples. One is Tian Tong Temple, which was built more than 1600 years ago. It is one of the five Buddhism temples, and attributes great influence upon Japan and many countries in Southeast Asia. Asoka Temple, one

of the five Chinese Buddhism temples, has a history of more than 1700 years. It is world famous for the Buddhism relics collected in the temple. Daci Buddhism temple at the foot of Fuqian Mountain was famous ever in the South Song period. It is said that there are more than 1000 monks in its prime period. As a temple of more than 1700 years, it obtains essential status in Buddhism interchange between china and Japan.
　Official culture. In the history, most administers in Dong Qian Lake area were honest and upright, and in this area the Confucianism prospers. During the North Song Dynasty, Wang Anshi, a county magistrate in the yin county, was solicitous of the populace. On the basis of actual needs, he organized people to construct dikes and dams, dredge waterways and build irrigation works, many of which still work today. During the South Song Dnasty, treacherous official Qin Gui framed a case against general YueFei, a national hero. It is the Prime Minister Shi Hao who appealed for redress of the wrong. Shi Hao was just born in Dong Qian Lake area. Because of his uprightness and bravery, he is immortal in people’s heart. Besides him, the Shi family has cultivated two other prime ministers and two dukes in four generations, leaving legends and talks for the descendants.
In August of 2001, the Ningbo Municipal Government made a decision to accelerate the development of Dong Qian Lake area, ensured the layout range of Dong Qian Lake Resort is about 230 square kilometers, including Dong Qian Lake Town, Tian tong temple, Asoka Temple and TianTong Forest Park, and founded the Dong Qian Lake Resort Management Committee. As an agency of municipal government, it exercises relevant city-level economic administration power, which is equivalent to the administrative management function of the county in its range. This significant decision conforms to the trend of Ningbo’s development, because Ningbo plans to remove its downtown to the east and establish the eastern new city zone. Moreover, as an international port city, the decision also advances city function of Ningbo, for urbanization development strategy.
After the establishment of Dong Qian Lake Resort Management Committee, all works is developing in a all-round way. According to this overall plan, the Ningbo municipal government will invest 5 billion and 10 billion Yuan respectively in the following 3 and 5 years to develop and integrate in this area all kinds of resources, such as lakes, mountains, fields, folk cultures, architectures and history, finally to set up a lake of the city, of the ecology, of the culture and of the recreation.
As time passes by, Dong Qian Lake Resort will become a national key environmental travel resort, and the important International Conference Centre in East China, Blue sky and water, green hill and tree, a modern paradise will soon appear in the world.
