Ningbo Economic & Technical Development Zone (NETD)
As one of the earliest established 14 state-level development zones approved by the State Council, Ningbo Economic & Technological Development Zone(NETD) was born in October, 1984 with a starting area of 3.9 square kilometers. In 1992, NETD merged with Beilun Port Industrial Zone and its area was enlarged to 29.6 square kilometers. After 20 years’ development and construction, NETD has become a strategic location further opening to the outside world in Ningbo City and even in Zhejiang province, an important base of energy & raw materials in East China, and an important base of export processing and imported & exported logistics distribution in Zhejiang. In 2008, NETD achieved GDP of RMB 42.3 billion. Total industrial output value of scaled enterprises reached RMB 125.1 billion. Import & Export volume totaled USD 11.6 billion, including USD 5.84 billion for export volume alone. Fixed assets investment amounted to RMB 25.1 billion and the figure of fiscal revenue was RMB 3.74 billion in NETD.
A key Opening Area with Most Condensed Foreign-funded Projects in Ningbo City and Zhejiang Province
In 2008, NETD attracted a total of USD 1.01 billion and USD 0.62 billion in terms of contracted foreign capital and actually utilized foreign capital, taking up 24% and 25% respectively of those in Ningbo. This year, there are 57 foreign-funded enterprises (including 24 enterprises with a total investment volume over USD 10 million each) have been approved . By the end of 2008, investors from over 50 countries and regions had set up 1684 foreign-funded enterprises, including 400 enterprises with a total investment volume over USD 10 million each, in NETD. The actually utilized foreign capital totaled USD 5.2 billion. There were 39 Fortune 500 multinationals in this area.
A Key Component of the International Shipping Center in North East Asia Based upon An International Natural Deep-water Port
NETD is located closely to Beilun Port, a natural deep-water port. Taking this advantage, NETD targets at developing port based industries and modern tertiary industries, including the top logistics companies such as Maersk, MSC, UPS, Prologis and AMB, and the Top 15 shipping lines like Lloyd Triestino. As a core area of Ninbgo-Zhoushan Port and in order to take full advantage of port functions of materials distribution and industrial conglomeration, NETD is pushing forward the construction of key logistics parks, accelerating the completion of Ningbo Beilun Modern International Logistics Park, and setting up the logistics information platform and logistics exchange center.

In recent years, NETD has attracted and completed a number of key projects concerning its long-term development, among which are over 20 projects with a total investment volume over USD 100 million each, and 9 projects with a total investment volume over RMB 10 billion each. Today, most of Phase One of these projects have been completed and entered production. Six port-based industrial conglomerations of petrol-chemicals, energy, iron & steel, paper-making, automobile and ship-building are coming into being with an extension of industrial chains. NETD is becoming an area in Zhejiang Province with largest scaled and most condensed key projects under perfect industrial supportings. Local companies like Shenzhou International, Minth Group and Haitian International have gone public in Hong Kong,China stock market. Meanwhile, there are many other companies preparing to be listed in Hong Kong,China or domestic A Share stock market.
